Founded in 2020
Teaching English to People of All Ages in Budapest!
We at Going Native strive to give you the best English Education possible in Budapest. No matter the reason why you want to learn English, know that we will be there to help you on your journey. Together, Luca and Rhys have numerous years of teaching experience, educating children from the age of 3, all the way up to adults looking to pass a C1 English exam.
Since 2020, we have been teaching one Primary school class in District 5. For this class, we have created a tailor-made curriculum that was designed to help the students learn to read and write in English, as well as improve their vocabulary and communication skills.
In 2021, Going Native established an English language course at ELTE University for the Social Sciences Department. The course is worth credits for those students who complete the semester with us. For this, we have developed a specialised academic curriculum focusing on presentations and written academic vocabulary. Currently, we have over 30 students registered to this course from multiple degree backgrounds.
Qualified Educators
Both Rhys and Luca have 120 hour TEFL qualifications. They also hold MSc degrees in Exercise Physiology and Chemistry, respectively.

We plan everything based on your needs and abilities. You will receive a unique education 1-on-1 or in our groups sessions.

All our teachers are native-level English speakers. They will push you to utilise your English in a more natural way.
About US
Our Story
We are two young professionals based in Budapest, who are on a mission to help you learn English, without the burden of actually having to learn it! We started Going Native as a way to help young children continue learning English during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each week, we made several new videos freely available to everyone and uploaded them to our Facebook page and YouTube channel.
From this hard work came our first employment opportunity to work in Szemere Bertalan Primary School: teaching one third grade class in the afternoons. We have taught them how to read and write in English and developed a curriculum to structure their learning without the stress of homework tasks and exams. Currently, in 5th grade, teaching is conducted at the A2/B1 level
Additionally, we have hosted regular, thematically designed English play-groups for young children aged 3-6 years old; held numerous successful summer camps each year since 2020 and taught English privately to children and adults.
More recently, we have also started an English Language Course at ELTE University, where we work hard to provide support to those conducting their studies in English. We deliver thematic lesson plans based on the students needs and current abilities. As of 2022, the course is worth credits to the students. Additionally, we organise English workshops for the students as a way of checking their English language in coursework, essays, thesis and presentation work.
We are really proud of and grateful for the experiences we have had so far and have an absolute passion for teaching. As such, we cannot wait to see what the future holds for us!

Co-founder and Teacher
Luca Douglas
Luca is a native-level English speaker. She is originally from Hungary, but has spent eight years living and studying in the UK. Her experiences of working in summer camps in Hungary and Germany have inspired her to educate young children. Currently, she is teaching English as a second language to students in Budapest. She believes in the power of story-telling and aims to engage the students’ natural curiosity to enhance their learning.

Rhys Douglas
Rhys is a native English speaker from a village called Bolton-Le-Sands in England. Currently, he is teaching English as a foreign language to children aged 9-11 and to the students of ELTE university. He has many years of teaching experience in England, Germany and Hungary in a variety of different settings from classrooms to camps. He believes that making language learning fun and challenging is the key to success.
